VanTastic Mission!

Over 20 years ago, the Flushing House received a grant for a new van. It became more than just a vehicle. It became a bridge to the world outside our walls. It took our residents to to the grocery store, restaurants, community events, parks and so much more. That van is now decades old and is in need of replacement! After two decades of service our trusted van is barely operational.  Constant repairs, Safety concerns, and limited mobility means fewer trips and fewer moments of joy. For man of our residents, these outsings are their only chance to connect with the outside world. A new van means freedom. It means independence, it means laughter, fresh air, and memories made with friends.
In 2025, we made the decision to begin raising funds for a new van. This year, a fundraising committee was formed to lead the effort. Residents; Eva, Bob, and Edna stepped up to serve in this important role.
Our goal is to raise $150,000.00 for a van that’s comfortable and accessible for everyone in our community.

Many residents and families have expressed a desire to help strengthen our community with a contribution. We are a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, which means that donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

The Flushing House in Queens, New York, and it’s residents are on a mission to replace their primary transportation vehicle!

As New York State’s largest not-for-profit, Independent Living retirement community, the mission of Flushing House must always come first: To provide a safe, enjoyable and affordable retirement experience for our residents. In order to do so, having a reliable vehicle is paramount!

Flushing House is a unique Independent Living Community located in the heart of Flushing, Queens. Home to over 300 residents, Flushing House is a 12 story community with a rooftop solarium boasting views of New York City.

In contrast to nursing homes, continuing care facilities and assisted living, Independent Living is ideal for senior individuals who can still live independently but enjoy having access to on site services when needed. Transportation is a key element to that freedom.
