Flushing House is a welcoming, not-for-profit Independent Living community located in the heart of Flushing, Queens. For more than 50 years, we have helped older adults enjoy retirement with greater freedom, comfort, security, and connection.

Home to more than 300 residents, Flushing House offers private studio and one-bedroom apartments in a vibrant, culturally diverse community. Residents maintain their independence, make their own decisions, and come and go as they please—without the responsibilities and isolation that can sometimes accompany living alone.

Flushing House was one of the first institutions to offer Independent Living for older adults, coupled with supportive services right on the premises. How does Independent Living work, from the Flushing House perspective? Built in 1974 for active senior living, our 12-story, 319-unit residence is ideally suited for seniors who can live independently, providing they’re able to access services that lessen the burdens of keeping up their own apartments.
Featured in New York Magazine (December 11, 2006), Flushing House was cited as one of the 20 best places for older adults in the New York area. Most recently, Flushing House was named Best Retirement Community of 2025 by Best of Boro. Among the area’s network of social workers and geriatric care managers, Flushing House has maintained a reputation as one of the leading centers for Independent Living.
